We're kicking off our Christmas movies and cocktail pairings with the classic Dr Seuss's....."How The Grinch Stole Christmas", and the fairly unknown Grasshopper.
It's only right that the cocktail we paired with this movie be bright green and, well, not very popular! But give it a chance....if mint choc is your thing you'll love it!
The Grasshopper originates from Tujague's in New Orleans, dating back to prohibition era, but becoming most popular in the 70's.
Full disclosure...this recipe is not a healthy one. It has sugar from the Crème de menthe and the cacao liqueur.
However, depending on how much time you have, there are ways of making this slightly better for you....
- Follow our recipe and make it vegan-friendly
- Make your own Creme de Cacao following this recipe
- If you're buying the liqueurs, make sure you go for the more premium ones, links below. They tend to be less sugary and artificial.
- We've also gone for the more popular approach of serving it with a splash of vodka, that creates a slightly boozier, less sweet version.
Ingredients:
25ml Vodka
25ml Crème de Cacao Blanc
15ml Almond milk
15ml Oatly single cream
A pinch of black pepper
Dark Chocolate or mint sprig for garnish
Method:
Add all of the ingredients, including the pepper, into a shaker. Shake with cubed ice and fine strain into a martini glass or champagne coupe.
Garnish with a mint sprig or even better, some shaved dark chocolate.
